Strategy
The Vaal Temple is a dedicated farming mechanic accessed from the Vaal map zone next to the Ziggurat Refuge. Inside Vaal maps you clear Vaal beacons to earn crystals (cap 60) and Atlas points; six crystals open one temple run, so a full stockpile lets you chain up to ten temple runs back-to-back. The temple itself is shaped by placing rooms on Doryani’s console — compatible rooms chained in a straight line raise each other’s tier, increasing both difficulty and reward. It’s a strategy-heavy mechanic best for players who enjoy optimizing layouts for medallions, currency, and pinnacle boss loot.
The key insight is room destabilization: after each run, rooms at the start or end of a path can be destroyed, but a straight chain protects its middle section, so building one long line rather than loops keeps your best rooms alive. Medallions (max six held) let you add, reroll, or lock rooms — the lock medallion is the most sought-after and now only drops from Atziri and the Architect.
Atlas Tree & Setup
Build the Vaal Atlas tree to reduce destabilization, increase medallion drops, and empower room effects. Vaal Temple maps are also city maps, so with the Industrial Improvements node you can run a fourth tablet on them. Suggested node priority: Stolen Authority (medallion chance) → Offerings to the Queen (temple currency) → the four destabilization-reduction smalls → Training and Preparation (+1 area level) → Military Reinforcement → Protected Treasures → Expanded Design → Secrets of the Ancients → Royal Prerogative → Bloodright Investments → Riches of the Empire (currency duplication) → Atziri’s Assets. Only then layer in the difficulty nodes (Patrolling Legions, Loyal Gatekeepers, The Lost Architect, Power Relays, Efficient Arteries, Transcendent Progress, Machinations) so you don’t over-juice before you can clear it.
Investment & Returns
- Investment: mid — you farm crystals in-map and build the Atlas tree over time; the heavy nodes scale difficulty alongside reward.
- Returns: mid to high — medallions, duplicated currency, sacrificial regalia, and Atziri pinnacle loot.
- Scales with how aggressively you chain rooms and juice the temple before you can clear its bosses.
Step-by-step
- Clear Vaal beacons in Vaal maps to bank crystals (6 per run, cap 60) and grab Atlas points.
- Open the temple at Doryani’s console and place rooms in one long compatible chain rather than loops.
- Run the temple, completing rooms to collect medallions; close it afterwards to reveal new rooms.
- Path to the Architect for the lock medallion and the Royal Access Chamber room.
- Place the Royal Access Chamber, then on a fresh run path to both it and Atziri to fight the pinnacle boss for her loot and Atlas points.
Risks
- Over-juicing rooms before you can handle them makes runs unbeatable — scale the difficulty nodes last.
- The lock medallion now only drops from bosses (Atziri / Architect), so early temples are more fragile.
- Atziri is a true pinnacle fight, and the two-run Royal Chamber → Atziri pathing is fiddly to set up.
