Strategy

The 0.5.4 patch turned Expedition into one of the strongest budget currency farms in Path of Exile 2. The key change is small but enormous: the chance for Runic monsters from Expeditions and Grand Expeditions to roll rare now correctly scales with increases to monster rarity and rare-monster chance. That means stacking rare-monster and monster-rarity modifiers on your map tablets translates directly into more rare Runic monsters out of every Verisium remnant — and rare Runic monsters with lots of modifiers are where the loot comes from.

The creator ran this for 6–7 hours on a complete budget setup with no Aldur’s Saga required, and reports a realistic profit of roughly 72–100+ divines across about 12–14 Grand Expeditions. The headline result: you are effectively guaranteed at least one divine per completed Grand Expedition once the setup is dialed in, with the occasional ten-divine spike or unique item (Aldur’s Saga, Visions of Paradise) on top.

This farm is for any player who has cleared the five Grand Expedition campaign bosses (which auto-grants the full Expedition Atlas tree) and has a build sturdy enough to handle juiced rare monsters. The tablet cost is trivial, so the entire return is close to pure profit.

Atlas Tree & Setup

Completing all five Grand Expedition bosses awards all 24 Atlas tree points for free — if you’ve already done that questline (started from Dannig, southeast of the Ziggurat Refuge at the Ruins of King’s March) the tree is fully unlocked the moment you log in.

Notables the creator prioritizes:

  • Power-rune chance — 25% chance for Verisium remnants to count as affected by a power rune. This is the single most important node; it juices the monsters of that remnant and massively inflates rewards even from low-tier remnant text.
  • Additional Verisium remnant — more remnants per map.
  • Additional runic modifier — more modifiers on rare monsters means more loot.
  • Explosives proceed at 50% of monsters slain — quality-of-life speed node, since Grand Expeditions are long.
  • Terrain notable (preference) — the creator runs Desert for increased monster effectiveness; Forest (increased rare-monster item rarity) is a valid alternative.

Atlas master: Jato is recommended over Doriyani. Jato’s partial translations pair extremely well with a rare/rarity tablet setup, plus unexpected missions, Eastern Knowledge (free remnant rerolls), and Keen Appraisal. Doriyani makes the monsters much easier but the creator found the loot slightly worse — a fine fallback if your build can’t survive the juice.

Investment & Returns

  • Investment: low. You need a logbook plus a tablet setup costing roughly 40–50 exalts per tablet. No Aldur’s Saga, no expensive crafted maps.
  • Returns: high. ~72–102 divines profit over ~12–14 Grand Expeditions / ~30 maps in the creator’s sample, costing about 10.3 divines total — effectively one or more divines guaranteed per Grand Expedition.
  • Scaling: the more rare-monster and monster-rarity you stack (and the more power-rune procs you hit), the harder the monsters become but the higher the loot. Returns scale with your build’s ability to kill heavily-juiced rares.

Step-by-step

  1. Unlock the Expedition Atlas tree by completing the five Grand Expedition bosses, then allocate the notables above (power-rune chance is mandatory).
  2. Set Jato as your Atlas master (or Doriyani if you need easier monsters).
  3. Roll map tablets that predominantly carry increased number of rare monsters and increased monster rarity prefixes; run three irradiated tablets so you also collect Delirium/Ritual tablets to sell while travelling. Skip the 10–15 divine “additional random modifier” tablets — this is a budget farm.
  4. Max the modifiers on your Waystone and corrupt it (T16 is nice but not required; skip T14).
  5. On the map, travel the whole area first and identify the highest-value Verisium remnants — look for the gold/yellow lines above a remnant that indicate it will juice monsters. Pick up power-rune-carrying remnants early so their modifiers carry forward.
  6. Save your single best remnant for last (the explosive line should reach it fully juiced), then run the explosive line, killing the increasingly tanky rares and looting chests along the way.
  7. Repeat. Use the community island-rumor cheat sheet to prioritize rumors that buff the area (boss maps, All-Roth) over cosmetic rewards.

Risks

  • Heavily-juiced rare Runic monsters get very tanky; a weak build will stall or die. Swap to Doriyani if you can’t handle the juice.
  • Grand Expeditions are long (10–15 minutes each even with the speed node), so this is throughput-limited compared to faster mechanics.
  • Returns are variance-heavy — the divine-per-map figure is an average across many maps, not a guarantee on any single run.
  • Late-league tablet prices and reroll costs creep up; the creator prefers this over the ritual-tablet farm specifically because the ritual rerolls had become too expensive.
