Overview
“Whirling Chaos” is a speed-focused rework of the Flame Blast ignite archetype that removes the ignited-ground minigame entirely. It exploits an interaction found by Pvt Sarge: whirl over two separate sources of ignited ground and the ignite stays attached to Whirling Slash permanently, effectively turning the character into a moving area-of-effect burn aura.
That single change fixes most of the parent build’s complaints. There is no more oil-patch chaining to maintain, no more screen-filling ignited ground melting the GPU, no more Cast on Dodge combo every few seconds, and no more losing the setup if you stop moving. You hold a direction with the mouse and the ignite travels with you.
Getting infinite is a short ritual rather than a rotation: a Forgotten Warden companion uses Oil Barrage to create the first ignited ground, Flame Blast supplies the second, and a boot swap into Burst of Fury locks it in. After that it is self-sustaining.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Extremely fast — the creator is already outrunning the oil grenade version on a 10-chaos weapon
- Far better visual clarity and much lighter on the GPU than ignited-ground spam
- Almost no button pressure once the infinite ignite is established
- You can stop, check inventory, or reposition without rebuilding the setup
- Reuses the existing Flame Blast gear; only one or two unique swaps are needed
Cons
- The creator says it is worse than the oil grenade version for boss and unique-heavy content
- Ignite duration is short, so you must stay in melee range to keep reapplying on tanky targets
- Setup depends on a companion behaving correctly — minion command has to be bound manually
- Wants a lot of attack speed investment before Whirling Slash feels good
Key Skills
- Whirling Slash — the movement-and-damage skill that carries the infinite ignite
- Flame Blast — supplies one of the two ignited-ground sources; 20% quality mandatory
- Forgotten Warden companion (Oil Barrage) — creates the first ignited ground instance
- Arctic Armour — mandatory defensive aura
- Cast on Elemental Ailment / Contagion — kept at low gem level; handles flyers and spreads damage
- Temporal Chains (Blasphemy) — optional but strong once spirit allows
Gear & Anointments
The creator’s checklist: 20% quality on Flame Blast, Whirling Slash, Arctic Armour and Cast on Elemental Ailment; a Fox Idol for extra quality; roughly 70% armour with about 40% “armour applies to elemental damage”; and at least 2,000 life. A Black Flame with the lowest possible reduced ignite duration roll is wanted — too high a roll is noticeably worse here. Life and mana on kill jewels are called out as very important. Attack speed drives everything, so Sand in the Eyes, Stimulants and Dance with Death all matter, and the spear must be used with no off-hand for the 25% more skill speed. Great Wolf’s Rune of Willpower is a cheap extra defensive layer since mana is barely used.
Endgame Notes
For content harder than a six-mod Delirium map, swap back to a defensive chest after establishing the infinite ignite, and consider Shankon to convert armour into deflection for a double-capped setup. A small mechanical tip from the video: holding the mouse cursor close to the character roughly doubles Whirling Slash’s travel speed.
