Overview

“Floor is Chaos” is the 0.5.5 evolution of the Flame Blast oil grenade build. The patch’s changes to chaos ignites made it worth converting both Flame Blast and its ignited ground to chaos damage, and the knock-on effects are larger than the conversion itself suggests.

Two problems disappear at once. Flying monsters, previously handled by manually cast Tornado — which risked disrupting the ignites — are now killed automatically by Contagion carrying the ignite. And high elemental resistance maps, previously a hard skip, become runnable because the damage is no longer elemental.

The setup keeps Cast on Dodge, so maps still finish in under a minute, and the freed-up sockets go to Despair (nearly free to spam thanks to quality) and Wither in Presence for extra scaling. The creator’s preferred conversion route is the Black Flame Covenant passive rather than the Black Flame ring.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Flying monsters are handled automatically by Contagion; Tornado can be dropped entirely
  • High elemental resistance maps become viable content instead of a skip
  • Retains the sub-one-minute map times of the Cast on Dodge oil grenade setup
  • Despair and Wither in Presence add substantial scaling for very little cost
  • The creator demonstrates a fully deterministic +5 all spell skills staff craft that carries to T15

Cons

  • The Black Flame ring’s 75% reduced ignite duration breaks the automated flyer kills — the passive is preferred
  • You give up increased ignite magnitude by taking the Covenant route instead of the ring
  • Still an ignited-ground build, so the visual and GPU load of the archetype remains
  • Full potential waits on Split Personality jewels becoming available on trade

Key Skills

  • Flame Blast (chaos converted) — main damage, quality-driven as always in this archetype
  • Oil Grenade — spreads the chaos ignited ground
  • Contagion — carries the ignite to flying monsters and spreads it through packs
  • Cast on Dodge — automation layer that keeps map speed high
  • Despair — spammed off Cast on Dodge; quality makes the mana cost negligible
  • Wither in Presence — stacking chaos damage taken, reaching instant max stacks late

Gear & Anointments

The gear baseline is unchanged from the fire version: armour, life, resistances, and a high-plus fire spell staff. The creator runs a +5 fire staff described as mid-game and notes it can be divined further. Black Flame Covenant is reached by pathing up the tree, which also picks up Burnout and chaos damage nodes along the way, and leaves a ring slot free for rarity. A rare ring is preferred over the Black Flame ring specifically to preserve ignite duration.

Endgame Notes

Long term the creator plans to pick up Split Personality — likely Templar for an armour/ES archetype — once those jewels start appearing, with full ES and Chaos Inoculation named as the safest version of that plan.
