Overview

This is a companion “zoo” build that leans as far into the archetype as the game allows: a full menagerie of tamed beasts does the killing while the character mostly runs around marking targets. The day-two update it documents reached Arbiter of Ash comfortably and killed Xesht repeatedly, on a build the creator prices at around 10 Divines total.

Two pieces unlock the jump in power. Idol Tree gives companions 10% increased damage per Idol equipped and 2% reservation efficiency per Idol, so every Idol slot pays twice. Salvin’s Effigy then removes the cap on how many different companion types you can run, leaving spirit as the only real limit — which is exactly what the reservation efficiency from Idol Tree and the tree’s Easy Going and Trusty Kinship nodes are there to solve.

Defence works the same way as offence: it is outsourced. Loyalty on every companion redirects a share of incoming damage, Captivating Companionship sends another 5%, Starkonja’s Head sends 15% of hits taken to companion life, and Primal Markings does the same for deflected hits. Stacked together the character takes very little of what actually hits it.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Extremely simple to pilot — the main input is pressing the mark key on packs and bosses
  • Layered damage-redirection makes it very hard to die even while playing carelessly in T15 maps
  • Auras from the companions themselves (haste, resistance, extra physical) do the heavy lifting on defence
  • Around 10 Divines is enough to reach a state where most content is clearable
  • Idol slots scale both damage and companion count, so every corrupted socket is a real upgrade

Cons

  • Salvin’s Effigy is the whole build and sits around 8 Divines — before it, the setup is much weaker
  • Idol of Relic Ash was priced at roughly 115 Exalts and is described as mandatory
  • Companion damage is indirect, so it can feel unresponsive if you prefer to press buttons yourself
  • Gear at the point of recording was still rough (gloves and rings with no meaningful mods), so the numbers shown are not a finished character

Key Skills

  • Wild Protector / Ashen Wolf / Wolf Pack — the core companion package, all running Loyalty for damage redirection and Rage for attack speed
  • Mighty Companion (Silverfish) — main damage companion with Feeding Frenzy, Rapid Attacks, Hulking Minion, and Muster
  • Spirit Vessel — from Forgotten Warden’s Primal Markings; hosts wolf, bear, or warren skills such as Lunar Assault and Lunar Blessing
  • Armour Breaker — the character’s own contribution, purely for armour break on tough targets
  • Tame Beast — always keep one on the bar so you can capture anything worth keeping

Gear & Anointments

The weapon is a Trench Timber Spike Club for minion levels and the clause that makes minion attack speed modifiers apply to you as well. Starkonja’s Head, ideally corrupted with two sockets, carries Idol of Relic Ash for reservation efficiency. Primal Markings is the chest, providing the Spirit Vessel and further damage redirection. Rings, belt, boots, and gloves are pure resistance, life, and movement speed filler at this stage.

Salvin’s Effigy is the chase piece: uncapped companion variety plus more companion damage when you mark targets, and it also rolls spirit. A Primate Idol socketed into it grants allies in presence 40% increased damage plus Discipline and a wolf skill. The build had not yet slotted a Mark skill at the time of recording despite the Effigy rewarding one — that is an acknowledged gap.

Endgame Notes

Ascendancy order is Natural Order (tame unique beasts, movement speed, periodic spirit possession), Wild Protector, Idol Tree, then the node granting companions attack damage equal to 60% of your main-hand weapon damage. On the tree, Sick ‘Em is called out as the single most important node — 60% more damage against immobilised enemies, which covers freeze, pin, and electrocute. Bond of the Cat is non-negotiable for keeping companions in range.
