Overview

Arc Totem on Gemling Legionnaire exists for one reason: the ascendancy grants gems extra effect from quality, and on Arc that converts directly into 3% more damage per remaining chain. Stack that with Dominus’ Grasp for 100% more chains and the multiplier compounds into an absurd number. The same quality node also feeds Spell Totem cast speed, so the totems fire faster while each cast hits harder.

The practical result is a mapping character that kills off-screen. Chains propagate well past the visible area, and the creator is running fully-modded T15 maps on budget gear with a single button. Visual clarity is a deliberate selling point here — Arc’s chains stay readable where comparable Grim Pillar totem setups produce enough particles to tank framerate.

Damage on a budget comes from a crit trick rather than expensive gear. Maligaro’s Virtuosity fixes the critical damage bonus at 250%, which pairs with Pinpoint Critical and the Careful Assassin notable to buy a large amount of crit chance without giving that bonus back. It is a cheap way to reach a respectable crit profile early, and the gloves get replaced later once the mana-stacking half of the tree comes online.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Off-screen clear from Arc chain propagation — mapping is close to effortless
  • Effectively one button; a second skill only for faster boss kills
  • Clean visuals with no FPS drops, unlike other totem archetypes in this patch
  • Cheap to assemble — the creator clears fully-modded T15 on explicitly budget gear
  • The Gemling quality interaction scales hard as gem quality improves

Cons

  • Cannot be played during the campaign at all — the mandatory tree nodes are too far from the Mercenary start
  • Requires level 70+ and a few Divines banked before the swap is viable
  • Needs a separate levelling build entirely (the creator ran Twister and points at Guy That Dies for it)
  • Tight Spirit budget: exactly 370 Spirit is needed for four totems, Mana Remnants and Archmage, so several slots are locked to that stat

Key Skills

  • Spell Totem + Arc — the core; supported by Deliberation, Argent Totems, Dominus’ Grasp and Pinpoint Critical
  • Archmage — with Lightning Mastery, converts the mana pool into damage
  • Mana Remnants — with Remnant Potency and Harmonic Remnants, keeps the mana-stacking engine fed
  • Frost Bomb — Potent Exposure, Short Fuse and Efficiency for boss exposure
  • Elemental Weakness — boss curse, run with Hinder, Cursed Ground and Efficiency

Gear & Anointments

Wand wants +2 to Lightning Spell Skills, spell damage, and added damage as elemental on the suffixes, with mana, crit chance and (less critically) cast speed. The sceptre is a Spirit slot first — as much Spirit as possible, extra mana, and one of the Purity auras for resistance patching. Body armour is a Blue Vail Rope crafted cheaply: Essence of Enhancement, desecrate a prefix, then Exalt spam, targeting 50+ Spirit and energy shield. Amulet is the biggest single slot — +12 to all Spell Skills plus as much Spirit as the roll allows, then resistances, flat ES, mana and crit. Helmet, belt, rings and boots are generic mana / energy shield / resistance fillers. Maligaro’s Virtuosity is the one unique that matters early. Ascendancy priority is the quality-effect node and the +2 levels to Intelligence-requirement skills; the tree picks up Efficiency Inscriptions (dropping totem cost from 75 to 63 Spirit), the notable letting totems use Spirit instead of charges, Mind over Matter, and Careful Assassin. Split Personality is used later to reach the Druid-side passives.

Endgame Notes

The creator transitioned at level 75 and reports fully-modded T15 maps as the current comfort zone on budget gear, with a less budget-friendly high-end version and a full written guide still to come.
