Overview
This is an act-by-act campaign and league-start guide for Ice Shot Deadeye, tuned for patch 0.5. Ice Shot took only a minor freeze-build-up nerf while the snipe explosion damage was buffed, positioning it as one of the strongest ranged league starters going into the new league — complete with satisfying one-shot boss combos once the setup is online.
The route is a gem-swap journey. Because Ice Shot isn’t available early, you level with Lightning Arrow plus Lightning Rod, drop bosses into rods and fire arrows to cook them, and pick up Herald of Thunder and Frost Bomb for exposure as you go. At level 22 you transition toward ice with Freezing Mark, Snipe, Ice-Tipped Arrows, Freezing Salvo and Barrage, swapping Herald of Thunder for Herald of Ice, before finally swapping the main skill to Ice Shot around level 31.
Gearing advice is deliberately budget-friendly: check vendors every few levels, prioritise life and resistances, seek flat physical or elemental damage on rings and quiver, and chase evasion or evasion/ES hybrid bases without stressing over perfect rolls.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- True league starter — leans on self-found campaign gear, no uniques required
- Buffed snipe explosion enables reliable one-shot boss combos in 0.5
- Clear stays strong throughout every act via Lightning Arrow then Ice Shot
- Clear, staged gem swaps with concrete level breakpoints
Cons
- The one-shot snipe combo has a timing window that takes practice
- Multiple large gem swaps (notably at level 22) to manage mid-campaign
- Damage is bow-upgrade dependent, so you must keep crafting rare bows at each tier
- Guide focuses on the campaign, not endgame mapping/pinnacle progression
Key Skills
- Ice Shot — the eventual main skill; column-of-shards clear from level 31
- Lightning Arrow + Lightning Rod — early-campaign clear and single-target combo
- Snipe + Barrage + Freezing Mark — the boss one-shot package
- Ice-Tipped Arrows / Freezing Salvo — freeze application and manual ice-fragment detonation
- Frost Bomb — exposure to lower enemy resistances (dropped later for Cold Exposure)
Gear & Anointments
No uniques are required. Throughout the campaign, prioritise life and resistance rolls for survivability, rings with flat physical or elemental damage, boots with movement speed, and gloves with attack speed plus flat damage. On the quiver, chase more flat physical or elemental damage. Bases are secondary — prefer evasion or evasion/ES hybrids but take any base with better affixes. Craft a fresh rare bow at each tier breakpoint (Recurve around level 16, Zither around level 31, Artillery Bow at level 45), juicing bases and slamming with Artificer’s Orbs for physical-damage runes. Keep flasks upgraded, buying from vendors if drops are unlucky.
Endgame Notes
Ascendancy priorities are Point Blank first (to unlock Endless Munitions on the second trial), then Endless Munitions for an extra projectile on all bow attacks — including Snipe — which strengthens the one-shot combo further. By the end of Act 4 (around level 45) the build is essentially complete and ready to move into maps.
