Overview
This build turns a single Lightning Arrow into a full-screen chain reaction. The arrow itself carries enough cold damage to freeze on contact, and every elemental herald in the game — Herald of Ice, Herald of Thunder, and Herald of Ash — is layered on top with the armour-explosion tech so that the first pack that dies detonates the rest of the screen. The result is a Ranger that rarely has to aim twice: freeze, shatter, chain, repeat.
The engine behind it is a combination of stacked area of effect and armour breaking. Over 100% increased AoE on the heralds is what lets each explosion physically reach the next group of monsters, and a chaos damage source (runes plus Anathema Embrace) is what breaks armour so the herald detonations propagate instead of fizzling on tanky mobs. Freeze buildup on the passive tree feeds Herald of Ice, while crit chance and crit damage keep the whole loop consistent rather than streaky.
Single target is not an afterthought. Lightning Rod acts as a dedicated boss skill in a second weapon set, and the Deadeye Call of Steel mark package applies Freezing Mark, Mark of the Siphoning, and Charge Mark automatically while you shoot. With roughly 3 million single-target DPS and around 3.5k life, the build is made to clear juiced maps at speed and still put down pinnacle bosses.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Exceptional clear speed — one Lightning Arrow can wipe a screen once the herald chain starts
- Strong single target through Lightning Rod plus the automatic mark setup, enough for pinnacle bosses
- Extremely simple mapping loop: stay at range, keep moving, let Far Shot and the heralds do the work
- Deadeye Gathering Winds stacks attack speed, movement speed, and evasion rating as you play
- Scales smoothly — every gear upgrade adds more chain, better freezes, and more boss burst
Cons
- The armour-explosion herald setup is explicitly expensive; this is not a fresh-league starter
- Heavy spirit demand to run three heralds at once, which gates the chest, amulet, and helmet
- Wants a fractured bow (tier-one cold damage or extra arrow chance) to feel correct
- Around 3.5k life on an evasion-based defence — positioning still matters, and a bad step hurts
- Screen noise from three heralds detonating at once can make dangerous ground effects hard to read
Key Skills
- Lightning Arrow — the main clear skill and freeze enabler, linked with Elemental Armament, Longshot, Deliberation, Freeze, and Ice Bite
- Lightning Rod — the single-target skill for tough rares and bosses, run with Rigwald’s Ferocity in the second weapon set
- Herald of Ice / Herald of Thunder — the explosion engine, both socketed with Magnified Area, Cold Attunement, Armour Explosion, and Armour Demolisher
- Herald of Ash — the third chain layer, supported with Precision, Clarity, Cannibalism, Magnified Area, and Swift Affliction
- Call of Steel marks — Freezing Mark, Mark of the Siphoning, and Charge Mark, applied automatically by the ascendancy
Gear & Anointments
The bow is the single most important piece: a two-string bow with either fractured tier-one cold damage or fractured chance to fire an additional arrow, then rolled for whichever of the two was not fractured. Gain 20% of damage as extra cold can be added with a perfect Essence of Ice. Runes should supply +1 arrow and gain damage as extra chaos — the chaos is what breaks armour for the herald detonations.
- Quiver — +2 to projectile gems, attack speed, increased damage with bow skills, plus crit chance or crit damage
- Amulet — spirit, life, +3 projectile gems, all attributes
- Chest and helmet — spirit and life first, with crafted life via a perfect Essence of the Body; the helmet also wants mana, crit chance, and an extra socket
- Rings, gloves, boots — resistances and life throughout, accuracy on gloves, movement speed on boots, socket power through Essence of Horror
- Jewels — a Megalomaniac allocating Doomslayer, plus a Time-Lost Sapphire positioned to cover freeze buildup, cold penetration, AoE, and crit chance
- Headhunter is optional and purely a luxury; the build does not need it
Ascendancy order is Gathering Winds, Call of Steel, Projectile Proximity Specialisation with Far Shot, then Endless Munitions. Specific anointments were not named in the source video and should be confirmed against it.
Endgame Notes
The build is designed around juiced mapping, where the herald chain has the most packs to feed on. Priority upgrades in order are spirit (to sustain all three heralds), then the armour-explosion support setup, then AoE and freeze buildup so explosions reliably reach the next pack. Once those are online, the same character handles pinnacle bosses by swapping to the Lightning Rod weapon set and letting the automatic marks stack pressure.
