Overview
This Lightning Arrow Deadeye is built around a chain reaction rather than a single big hit. One Lightning Arrow lands, freezes the pack, and from there the heralds take over: Herald of Ice shatters the frozen, Herald of Thunder cleans up the shocked, and Herald of Ash adds another layer of spread. The result is a bow build where the first shot is the only one you usually need to aim.
The tech that holds it together is armour break. Ulnathol’s Embrace lets chaos damage break armour, which is why the runes deliberately add chaos damage to the bow — with armour broken, Armour Explosion turns each herald proc into a detonation that reaches the next pack. Stacking over 100% area of effect for the heralds is what lets that chain keep travelling instead of dying out after one group.
Single target is not an afterthought. Lightning Rod, supported by Rigwald’s Ferocity from weapon set two, gives the build roughly three million single-target DPS, and the Cold Shots ascendancy applies marks automatically so you never stop moving to set up. Around 3.5k life is enough to survive most one-shots, with Gathering Winds evasion stacks doing the rest.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Screen-wide clear from a single Lightning Arrow via the triple-herald explosion chain
- Strong single target — Lightning Rod plus marks reaches roughly 3M DPS, enough for pinnacle bosses
- Cold Shots applies marks automatically, so bossing needs no manual setup
- Gathering Winds stacks give attack speed, movement speed and evasion at the same time
- Far Shot rewards the natural ranged playstyle instead of fighting it
Cons
- The armour-explosion setup is expensive — Ulnathol’s Embrace and a dual-string bow are not league-start purchases
- Heavy spirit requirement to run three heralds plus utility
- Five separate herald and skill links make the gem setup fiddly to assemble
- 3.5k life is workable but leaves little margin in heavily juiced content
- Gathering Winds stacks drop on hit, so the build feels noticeably worse when you are getting chipped
Key Skills
- Lightning Arrow — the main clear skill and freeze source; Elemental Armament, Long Shot, Deliberation, Freeze and Ice Bite
- Lightning Rod — dedicated single-target, paired with Rigwald’s Ferocity and Arcade’s Flow on weapon set two
- Herald of Ice — the explosion core, running Ulnathol’s Embrace, Cold Attunement, Magnified Area, Armour Explosion and Armour Demolisher
- Herald of Thunder — the same explosion package aimed at shocked enemies
- Cold Shots (ascendancy) — automatic mark application: Freezing Mark, Mark of the Siphoning, Charge Mark
Gear & Anointments
The bow is the single most important piece: a dual-string base with either fractured tier-1 cold damage or the chance to fire an additional arrow, then rolled for whichever one you did not fracture. Gain 20% of damage as extra cold can be added with a perfect Essence of the Ice, and the runes want plus one arrow plus gain damage as extra chaos — that chaos is what enables armour break for the heralds.
The quiver wants plus two levels to all projectile gems, attack speed, bow damage and crit. The amulet wants spirit, life, plus three projectile gems and all attributes. Chest and helmet prioritise spirit and life, gloves and boots want life plus socket power through Essence of Horror, with accuracy on gloves and movement speed on boots. For jewels, the Megalomaniac should allocate Doom Slayer for herald damage and area, and rare jewels want freeze buildup, cold penetration, area of effect and crit chance. Headhunter is optional and purely for fun.
Endgame Notes
Ascendancy order is Gathering Winds, then Cold Shots, then Projectile Proximity Specialisation with Far Shot, then Endless Munitions. Freeze buildup on the tree is not optional — freezing is what starts the herald explosion loop, so it functions as a damage stat rather than a defensive one. Area of effect is the other scaling priority: the 100%+ threshold is what lets explosions bridge from one pack to the next in juiced maps.
