Strategy

Abyss is the lowest-friction currency farm in 0.5.5. There is no map layout to learn, no timed mechanic to manage, and no per-map decision tree: enter, kill the abyss monsters, clear every pit, kill the boss if one spawns, leave. Warlug’s position is that if you have just finished filling out your Atlas points and want to start earning, this is the strategy to run before anything more elaborate.

What makes it profitable this patch is the Omen economy. Anumanu received a large buff and the abyssal factions now hand out different chest types — Anumanu gives armour chests, Ulaman gives currency chests. Speccing toward Omens rather than Lineage Supports puts you on Omen of Light and Omen of Abyssal Echoes, which sit at roughly four Divine and around a third of a Divine respectively at time of recording.

There is also an undocumented change worth knowing: abyssal depths appear to have been silently buffed. The creator reports getting the majority of his Omens and Echoes out of depths rather than surface pits, and this was not in the patch notes.

Atlas Tree & Setup

In the Abyss tree, prioritise Omens, then Anumanu at the top, then “abyss pits are scattered throughout the abyss”. Max the whole abyss tree before starting — the strategy relies on density. If you want raw currency rather than Omens early, swap Anumanu for Ulaman and take currency chests instead.

On the general Atlas tree: additional rogue exiles (they drop Heart of the Well gems), monster pack size, increased rare monsters, increased quantity of tablets for sustain, and the exalted-drops-as-chaos node. Take weapons/armour on the rogue exile reward selection.

Masters: Jato. Take Long Days for random extra content and Partial Translation for 0-40% increased tablet effect. Corrupting for an extra modifier is worth it. Hilda also works, but Jato is the pick here since you are not farming lineages.

Investment & Returns

  • Investment: low — three tablets and a waystone per map, no invitations or log books to buy up front
  • Returns: the creator’s 10-map sample produced 4 Omens of Light and 13 Omens of Abyssal Echoes, plus incidental drops. At roughly 4 Divine per Omen of Light, that is a strong return for the effort level
  • Scaling: Kolmarmac invitations from boss runs sell for around 4.5 Divine each, and running the boss at full power guarantees an ancient collarbone (~4 Div), jawbone (~5 Div), or rib (~4.5 Div)

Step-by-step

  1. Finish the entire Abyss atlas tree before farming anything.
  2. Take Omens on the abyss side, Anumanu at the top, and the scattered-pits node.
  3. Set Jato as your master with Long Days and Partial Translation.
  4. Roll three tablets: one with additional rogue exiles or additional rare monsters, one with four additional abysses, one with “abyss pits are twice as likely to have rewards”. Fill the remaining mods with monster effectiveness or rarity.
  5. Run grasslands maps where possible; nothing else about the map matters.
  6. Clear all abyss monsters, complete every pit, and prioritise abyssal depths when they appear.
  7. Kill the boss if one spawns for the Kolmarmac invitation, then leave immediately.

Risks

  • The Omen market is what makes this profitable; Omen of Light prices move fast and a crash cuts returns sharply
  • Corrupting tablets for the extra modifier can brick them
  • Partial Translation rolls 0-40%, so tablet quality varies run to run
  • The abyssal-depths buff is unconfirmed — the creator is explicitly asking viewers to verify it
