Strategy

Swordorin ran a 100-map test on Abyss in 0.5.5 and came back with a conclusion the patch notes never mentioned: Omen of Light has moved almost entirely into Abyssal Depths. Surface Abyss drops on the map itself have been cut to a trickle, while the Depths now produce far more of them than before. The practical consequence is that juicing the map for Omen of Light no longer does anything useful — what matters is how often Abyssal Depths open and how strong the waystone is when they do.

There are two behaviour changes worth knowing. Omen of the Leech can now drop alongside Omen of Light, which makes it look like you failed a pull when you did not, and killing Abyss monsters after dragging them out of the fog yields more Omen of Light than spamming skills at the pit mouth. Whether the Depths behaviour is intended or a bug is unclear; the tests are reproducible either way.

The headline result: 534 divine of profit across 100 maps against 117 divine of investment, with the best single 21-map stretch producing 15 Omen of Light plus fracturing orbs and Kulemak imitations on the side.

Atlas Tree & Setup

On the Atlas, take Amanamu, the Omen node, and the node spreading the effect across the whole map. Fixed effectiveness nodes are largely wasted here, because map juice no longer feeds Omen of Light.

The master is Doryani, and the key line is that modifiers on the waystone buff Abyssal Depths. That single point drives every other choice: keep the waystone as strong as possible — either max effectiveness, max rarity, or an eight-modifier random base — and take the Doryani point that makes prefix and suffix modifiers 25% more effective.

Run cleansed maps rather than corrupted ones. Cleansed drops the fracturing orb side income and lets you skip the corruption node entirely, which would otherwise only make the map harder. Tablets are three Abyss tablets on a cleansed map — Abyss tablets carry the chance for Abyssal Depths to spawn, so stacking three pushes that chance toward 90%. Preferred tablet modifiers are the Abyssal Depths chance at 100% together with increased rare monsters and increased monster rarity, since magic monsters upgrading to rare feeds the same goal. Pack size beat increased magic monsters in direct comparison.

Investment & Returns

  • Investment: mid — roughly 15 divine of tablets per 21-map block in the creator’s test, plus waystone cost
  • Returns: high — 534 divine gross against 117 divine invested over 100 maps, with the Doryani cleansed setup producing the best block
  • Scaling: returns track waystone strength and Abyssal Depths frequency, not map juice

Step-by-step

  1. Build or buy waystones with the strongest possible modifier set — max effectiveness, max rarity, or eight random modifiers.
  2. Take Doryani as master, skip the corruption node, and take the 25% increased effect of waystone prefixes and suffixes.
  3. Allocate Amanamu, the Omen node, and full-map spread on the Atlas.
  4. Slot three Abyss tablets on cleansed maps to stack Abyssal Depths spawn chance.
  5. In the map, clear the monsters around the Abyss pit, then follow it rather than spamming skills at the opening.
  6. Drag fog monsters outside the fog before killing them — this produced more Omen of Light in testing.
  7. Enter every Abyssal Depths you find; that is where the Omen of Light now comes from.

Risks

  • City maps performed noticeably worse for Abyssal Depths in this test than three-tablet cleansed maps, for reasons the creator could not explain and suspects may be a bug
  • Delirium and Sacred Bloom only buff the surface, which this strategy does not care about — adding them is wasted currency
  • Item rarity on the map is similarly wasted here; the payout is inside the Depths
  • Effectiveness-stacked waystones at 44% gave poor results in a 10-map test; higher rolls were untested
  • The findings are one creator’s 100-map sample against undocumented changes, so expect variance and possible patch corrections
