Strategy
Ritual is the headline mechanic of the Forbidden Rite league, and in 0.5.5 it spawns in every single zone — you can play for days without touching Expedition if you want. That ubiquity is what makes it a farming strategy rather than a side activity: every map you run is a ritual map by default, so the only real question is how hard you juice the reward window.
The payout is not raw currency drops. Ritual is the only source of high-value crafting omens — Whittling, Sinistral and Dextral Chaos, Erasure, Annulment — and it remains the main jackpot route to Mageblood and Headhunter. The strategy is therefore built around two levers: generating as much tribute as possible so you can afford everything in the window, and increasing the chance that what appears in the window is an omen worth selling.
It suits players who enjoy a gamble-flavoured farm with a high ceiling. It is not the fastest currency per hour, but the variance is in your favour and the omen floor keeps a bad session from being a wasted one.
Atlas Tree & Setup
Unlock the whole cluster around Kertarth, including the boss-kill points. Two keystones matter. Invigorated Sacrifice is the pick in its cluster — more items to choose from beats more tribute, and the ritual altar skills do so little damage that their downside barely registers. Traveler’s Woe: Tainted is the other mandatory one: Tainted is the easiest of the five ritual types to survive, and it also carries the highest belt chance, which is the Mageblood and Headhunter line.
Take Mysterious Rites as soon as the progression allows. The Queen’s Ritual it enables is only around an 8% spawn, but it dumps extra favours, extra omens and a large tribute bonus when it appears.
On the Atlas, run Jado for Unexpected Missions and, critically, Partial Translations — tablet effect is what turns this strategy from good into great. Long Days and Keen Appraisal are reasonable filler. Eastern Knowledge is no longer mandatory since Varisium Remnants are not in every map.
Waystones want tier 15 rolled to six mods, then corrupted. Tier 16s are better saved for other strategies. Prioritise rare monsters and pack size over rarity or monster effectiveness — more bodies inside the ritual circle means more tribute, and that is the whole economy of the farm.
Investment & Returns
- Investment: mid — three ritual tablets per map (four in a city), plus waystone rolling. The expensive version uses a unique tablet plus a rare “additional rerolls” tablet that trades for double-digit divines.
- Returns: high — high-value omens sell reliably, King’s heads trade around a divine each, and the belt jackpot is live on every Tainted ritual.
- Scaling — returns scale with tribute generation and omen chance. Rite of the Nameless multiplies both; the previous league’s high mark was roughly 30,000 tribute in a single map.
Tablet priorities: exactly one deferring costs reduced tribute (the tree’s Patient Devotion already gives 50%, so a second is overkill), one or two rerolling favours costs reduced tribute (each reroll is 1,000 tribute with no tree reduction), and then stack increased tribute and increased chance to be omens as hard as possible. Prefixes barely matter here. Chance-to-be-magic and chance-to-be-rare are close to dead stats.
Step-by-step
- Roll tier 15 waystones to six mods and corrupt them; slot three ritual tablets (four for a city map).
- Clear the map, run the rituals, then reserve and buy everything valuable — flip through every page before committing.
- Give leftover tribute to the King to bank an Audience with the King.
- Use Sacred Bloom on a well-connected Atlas node to apply Viridian Wildwood to every map connected to it — four or five at once. Wildwood wisps stack well past 20,000 on a tableted ritual map and layer cleanly on top of everything else.
- Carry an Audience with the King in your inventory and travel a few maps out from the citadel to reveal a Crux of Nothingness. Sell the King’s head, or use it yourself.
- For Rite of the Nameless, attach the head in Kertarth and pick a chain of six maps. Nothing burns until all six are selected, so take your time. Favour proliferations (which apply across the whole block) over one-off bounties, and start on the node with the most proliferations.
- Inside the Rite, expect a guaranteed ritual in every boss room, map bosses carried forward map to map, and rerolls accumulating to around seven by the end.
Risks
- Rite of the Nameless tribute cannot be converted into Audiences with the King — you must spend it inside the block.
- Free reroll procs are easy to miss. Spend as if each reroll is your last and you will occasionally waste a free one.
- The Wildwood wisp node spawns a circle you are pushed to stand in for 30% more tribute; on some builds this is a death sentence during a ritual, so take the tribute loss instead.
- The unique-tablet reroll gamble scales its own favour-cost penalty with tablet effect. A low roll matters more than it looks, and the whole line is a gamble against simply selling the tablets.
- Ritual is not a speed farm. If you are measuring divines per hour against fast mapping strategies, this will lose on throughput and win on jackpots.
