Strategy

Ritual is the headline mechanic of the Forbidden Rite league, and this run-through covers how to turn it into a steady currency engine at patch 0.5.5. Ritual now spawns in every single zone rather than being gated behind atlas placement, which makes it the one mechanic you can lean on from the first map onward without any setup cost. The payoff is not raw drops — it is the reward window, which is effectively the only reliable source of high-value crafting omens in the game, plus jackpot belts like Mageblood and Headhunter.

There are two shapes to the farm. Regular ritual is the low-effort version: clear the map, run the altars, spend tribute in the reward window, and dump leftovers as tribute to the King to bank Audiences. Rite of the Nameless is the concentrated version — you spend an Audience with the King to reveal a Crux of Nothingness, then chain six maps together that carry proliferations, bounties, guaranteed boss-room rituals, and a compounding map-boss stack. By the fifth or sixth map you are fighting five or six bosses inside a single ritual, and tribute totals in the 20,000-plus range are normal.

This suits players who want a jackpot-flavoured farm rather than a fast-clear one. The creator is blunt that ritual is not the quickest mechanic in the game — the value comes from the volume of rerolls and the omen pool, not from clear speed.

Atlas Tree & Setup

Take everything in the ritual cluster around Kertarth and kill the associated bosses to unlock the extra points. Two keystones matter:

  • Invigorated Sacrifice — more favours in the reward window. The competing options trade favours for tribute or altar damage, and since ritual altar skills do very little damage anyway, more things to buy always wins.
  • Traveler’s Woe (Tainted) — Tainted is the easiest of the five ritual types to survive (dodgeable ground circles) and carries the highest belt chance, which is where Mageblood and Headhunter come from.

Also grab Patient Devotion (50% reduced deferring cost) and push up to Mysterious Rites as early as the tree allows — the Queen’s Ritual it unlocks is only an 8% spawn but floods the window with extra omens and tribute. Note that one node spawns a Wildwood wisp you must stand in for 30% more tribute; useful, but do not die to it.

Waystones: roll tier 15 up to six mods and corrupt. Eight mods or tier 16 is a bonus, not a target — save tier 16s for strategies that actually care about rarity. Ritual wants rare monster count and pack size, since more monsters in the altar means more tribute.

Atlas leader: run Jado for Unexpected Missions and, critically, Partial Translations to amplify tablet modifiers. Long Days and Keen Appraisal are fine filler. Eastern Knowledge is no longer mandatory now that Varisium Remnants are not in every map.

Sacred Bloom: this new currency applies the Viridian Wildwood to a map and every map connected to it, so drop it on hubs with four or five connections. With ritual tablets running you can bank 20,000-plus wisps without effort — purple wisps give monster rarity (a much stronger stat in PoE2 than PoE1), yellow adds rare-monster mods, blue upgrades normals to magic.

Investment & Returns

  • Investment: mid. The floor is nearly free — ritual is in every zone and the passive tree costs nothing. The ceiling is expensive: the reroll-amplifying unique tablet paired with an “allow rerolling favors 1-3 additional times” suffix is a double-digit-divine setup.
  • Returns: mid to high, spiky. Steady income comes from crafting omens (Whittling, Sinistral/Dextral Chaos and similar) and from King’s Heads, which were trading around a Divine apiece at time of recording. The spike comes from belts.
  • Scaling: returns scale with reroll count and omen chance, not with monster rarity. Rite of the Nameless multiplies rerolls (you finish a chain with roughly seven), and the unique tablet doubles that again.

Tablet priorities — you run three ritual tablets, or four in a city:

  • Exactly one “rerolling favors costs reduced tribute” (two is acceptable, more is waste). Base cost is 1,000 tribute per reroll with no tree reduction.
  • Exactly one “deferring costs reduced tribute” — the tree already gives 50%, and Jado multiplies it.
  • Everything else into increased tribute and increased chance for favours to be omens. The omen modifier is the single best line on a ritual tablet.
  • Skip “chance to be magic/rare” — near worthless. “Favours reappear sooner” only matters if something like a Mageblood is already deferred.

Prefixes barely matter here; rarity and monster effectiveness do not drive the reward window.

Step-by-step

  1. Unlock the Kertarth ritual cluster, taking Invigorated Sacrifice, Traveler’s Woe (Tainted), Patient Devotion, and Mysterious Rites.
  2. Set Jado as your atlas leader with Unexpected Missions and Partial Translations.
  3. Roll tier 15 waystones to six mods, then corrupt.
  4. Buy or craft three ritual tablets: one reroll-cost reduction, one defer-cost reduction, then max increased tribute and omen chance.
  5. Drop Sacred Bloom on well-connected map nodes to spread the Viridian Wildwood across a cluster.
  6. Run regular rituals, clear the map first, then click the final altar to open the reward window. Buy omens and uniques, defer anything you cannot afford yet, and hand leftover tribute to the King.
  7. Bank Audiences with the King. Carry one in your inventory and travel a few maps out from the citadel to reveal a Crux of Nothingness.
  8. Attach the King’s Head at Kertarth and pick a six-map chain — favour nodes with proliferations (cheaper rerolls, increased tribute, more favours) over one-off bounties. Cleansed areas add monster count.
  9. Run the chain so proliferation maps come first and stay active for as many later maps as possible, and spend every reroll — tribute cannot be converted to Audiences inside a Rite.

Risks

  • Ritual is slow. If you measure success in maps per hour, this strategy will feel bad even when it pays.
  • The reward window is a gamble at the top end. Chasing Mageblood or Headhunter through mass rerolls can burn a whole session for nothing; selling the King’s Heads and rare tablets instead is the safe line.
  • Free rerolls from the tree can fire after you think you are on your last one. Spend as if another reroll is coming or you will strand tribute.
  • The tribute-boosting wisp node forces you to stand still mid-ritual, which is build-dependent and can get squishy characters killed.
  • Tablets with the rare “additional rerolls” suffix are expensive enough that buying one is itself an investment decision, not a default.
