Strategy
Abyss is the standout currency mechanic of this patch because it asks almost nothing of the player: kill the monsters around the green pits, kill the reinforcements that climb out of them, and collect what drops. The value comes from two streams at once — raw currency from Ulaman’s chests and desecrated drops, and high-price omens (Omen of Light, Omen of Abyssal Echoes) that come off monsters carrying abyssal modifiers.
The creator reports maps in the 5-divine range as routine, with occasional maps hitting 15-20 divines. That variance is the honest picture: Abyss is consistently profitable rather than reliably explosive. It works because the mechanic scales with ordinary map juice — tablet effectiveness, monster rarity, rare monster count — instead of demanding a specialised build.
It suits any character that can clear a tier-15 map safely. Chaos resistance is the one real prerequisite, since Kirgle’s respawning monsters fire chaos projectiles on death.
Atlas Tree & Setup
The key decision is the Abyssal Lord, controlled through the Balance of Power keystone:
- Ulaman — spawns far more rares and drops currency chests. Best if your damage is high enough to never stop attacking.
- Amanamu — monsters carry Amanamu’s Void; drag them out of the black cloud before killing to drop the valuable omens. Best for lower-DPS characters, at the cost of annoying snake monsters.
- Kirgle — weakest overall, but the only route to Kirgle’s Gaze, an abyssal bone from the Abyssal Depths worth roughly 43 divines. Swap Vile Treasures to Abyssal Eyes only for this setup.
Take Lord of the Pit — Proliferation to scatter abysses through the whole zone, and Omens over the alternatives unless bone-farming. Further up the tree, pick up Rogue Exiles and Azmeri Spirits — both interact with the pits, and Rogue Exiles can drop Heart of the Well. Stack effectiveness wherever it appears; Grass and Forest are strong biomes, and Swamp adds an Exalt-to-Chaos conversion that is worth real money.
Run it in cities for four tablet slots, or in ocean travel nodes for a lighter setup. Vaal city nodes are large and give city credit while you unlock temple points.
Investment & Returns
- Investment: mid — four juiced tablets per city map plus a six-mod corrupted waystone
- Returns: high — several divines per map typical, 15-20 on good maps
- Scaling: Tablet quality is the main multiplier. Effectiveness is S-tier; item rarity, rare monsters and monster rarity are the next tier. Pack size and magic monsters are acceptable filler. Good abyssal suffixes (additional abysses, increased chance to lead to Abyssal Depths, Close to the Surface) matter as much as the prefixes.
Master choice follows the setup: Jadoe for four-tablet city camping (Unexpected Missions fixes bad layouts, Partial Translations multiplies every tablet, plus Keen Appraisal and Long Days). Doryani for travel nodes with fewer tablets, where Evolutionary Pressure and Improved Calibration outweigh Jadoe’s extra modifier — plus Stitched Flesh as a free death.
Step-by-step
- Set Balance of Power to your chosen Lord and take Lord of the Pit — Proliferation plus the Omens node.
- Spec effectiveness, Rogue Exiles and Azmeri Spirits in the general tree; favour Grass, Forest or Swamp biomes.
- Pick a city node (four tablets) and slot tablets with effectiveness prefixes plus abyssal suffixes.
- Roll the waystone to six mods, corrupt it, and use a Chaotic Quantity omen to steer away from pack size.
- Choose Jadoe for cities, Doryani for travel nodes.
- Run the map: clear around each pit, kill everything that spawns, and for Amanamu drag void-marked monsters out of the black cloud before killing them.
- Self-farm replacement tablets by clearing the maps surrounding the Abyss starting area.
Risks
- Kirgle’s monsters resurrect as chaos projectile sprinklers — dangerous without chaos resistance.
- Amanamu’s snakes go damage-immune and telegraph long windup slams you must dodge.
- Omen prices move fast; Omen of Light has already slipped from ~3.3 divines, so sell as you go rather than hoarding.
- The good tablets are expensive to buy and inconsistent to self-farm; a bad tablet roll flattens a map’s return.
