Strategy

Spirit Walker characters live and die by the modifiers on the unique monkey they tame, and rerolling those modifiers is normally gated by how many unique-monster tablets you are willing to burn. This method flips the cost structure: instead of spending more tablets, it manufactures more attempts per tablet by stacking map revives, then deliberately dying to the monkey to force a modifier reroll.

The trick works because dying to the monkey resets its modifiers. Every revive is therefore a fresh roll. The guide presents two variants — a simple one most players already half-know, and a second, less obvious setup that quadruples the number of attempts per tablet by trading modifier count for revive count.

This is an early-game method, aimed at the point in a league where tablets are expensive relative to your wallet. Later on, once you can spend one to one and a half Divines per attempt, the older high-tablet approach that rolls three to six modifiers per monkey is stronger.

Atlas Tree & Setup

The required tablets are the ones granting unique monsters have one extra rare modifier. Because the Spirit Walker monkey build is popular, these are not cheap — roughly 1 Divine each, though careful filtering can find them around 60 Exalted or about 15 Chaos. Three of them run 2.5 to 3 Divines, but the whole point of this method is that you rarely consume them and can resell at a similar price.

You also need Doryani unlocked, whose first rank grants one additional revive. Unlocking him is straightforward: find the corrupted map section, look for the red dots, cleanse the first corrupted map and visit the corrupted site.

Target maps are Riverside and Rupture — the monkey maps. The minimum zone requirement is a Tier 6 map, though a Tier 1 is safer if the option exists.

Investment & Returns

  • Investment: mid. Two to three unique-monster tablets at roughly 1 Divine each, largely recoverable by resale. A five-socket skill gem is recommended, and a failed-corruption gem with rank 20 and +20% quality plus five sockets can be bought for around 13 Chaos, roughly half the price of a clean one and far cheaper than buying a Perfect Jeweller’s Orb.
  • Returns: mid. A good tame is a direct power spike — the creator measured roughly 40% more DPS from a single monkey swap. Method one yielded two three-modifier monkeys from one map; method two yielded five two-modifier monkeys, both on a single tablet use.
  • Scaling: the value is front-loaded. One well-rolled early monkey can carry a character to Tier 15; the creator cites a friend who found extra crit on the second attempt and rode it through the entire early game.

Step-by-step

Method one — six modifier rolls, three tablets

  1. Take a Tier 1 map with six modifiers and zero revives.
  2. Slot three tablets for three guaranteed monkey modifiers.
  3. Enter with Doryani’s first rank allocated for one extra revive.
  4. Run to the monkey, pause and inspect its modifiers.
  5. If the roll is bad, let the monkey kill you. Death resets its modifiers, so the revive gives you a second roll.

Method two — ten modifier rolls, two tablets

  1. Regal a map to exactly three modifiers so it becomes rare with three revives. Do not add more mods.
  2. Slot only two tablets — three modifiers on the map is the minimum for two tablet slots, and two-modifier maps will not accept them.
  3. This gives four total revives with two guaranteed monkey modifiers.
  4. Suicide through all four revives, inspecting each reroll — five monkeys at two modifiers each, ten modifier rolls off a single tablet use.

Gearing the tame

  1. Prioritise extra critical strike and extra damage modifiers. Elemental resistance auras are acceptable; auras the monkey cannot inherit are not.
  2. Buy a failed-corruption five-socket skill gem rather than paying for a Perfect Jeweller’s Orb — but avoid any failed corruption with a -1 level modifier.
  3. Once you hold a solid two-modifier monkey, move up to Riverside and Rupture maps with three tablets.

Risks

  • The method is literally built on repeated deaths. It is unusable in hardcore and costs experience in softcore.
  • Tablet prices track build popularity. At around 1 Divine each, a run of bad luck ties up real currency even if you resell.
  • Method two trades a guaranteed modifier for extra attempts — it is a variance play, not strictly more value, and the maths only roughly breaks even.
  • The map must roll exactly three modifiers to accept two tablets. Over-regaling wastes the map.
  • A failed-corruption gem with -1 level is the worst possible outcome and is easy to buy by accident.
  • This ceases to be optimal once you can afford the higher-tablet approach for three-plus modifier monkeys.
