Strategy
Abyss is the most straightforward currency farm in patch 0.5.5 and the one to run first once the Atlas tree is filled out. There is no map-rolling ritual and no multi-step setup — allocate the Abyss cluster, slot three tablets, and run maps. The payout comes from Omens: Omen of Light and Omen of Abyssal Echoes both sell well, and the Abyss factions each drop a different chest type, so the strategy can be pointed at whichever reward class is worth the most at the time.
What makes the patch version stronger than the previous league is the faction rework. Annamanu received a large buff and now drops armour chests, another faction covers jewellery, and Ulaman drops currency chests — which makes Ulaman the easy default for players who just want raw currency instead of gambling on Omen prices. Abyssal Depths also appear to have been quietly improved: the creator reports pulling most of their Omens and Echoes from Depths encounters specifically, before any boss reward.
This is the right strategy for a character that has just finished the Atlas grind, has no divine-tier budget for map juicing, and wants a reliable floor rather than a spiky ceiling.
Atlas Tree & Setup
Max out the Abyss cluster before running anything. Take the Omen-focused nodes (Omen of Light, Abyssal Echoes and similar), take Annamanu at the top, and take the node that scatters Abyss pits throughout the area.
On the main Atlas tree, prioritise additional Rogue Exiles — they drop Heart of the Well gems, which are a meaningful side income. Where the tree offers a choice, take weapons/armour on the Rogue Exile reward nodes, monster pack size, increased rare monsters on grass, increased effectiveness of monsters, increased quantity of tablets (to sustain the strategy), and the node that converts Exalted drops into Chaos.
Jato is the preferred Atlas leader: corrupting gives an additional modifier and more random map area used as basic maps. Run Unexpected Missions, Unforeseen Threats, Long Days for random extra content, and Partial Translation for a random 0–40% increased tablet effect. Hilda also works well here. Grass biomes are the best map choice, but the strategy functions anywhere.
Investment & Returns
- Investment: low — three tablets per map, no omens, no map corruption required
- Returns: mid to high — the creator reports 4 Omens of Light and 13 Omens of Abyssal Echoes across 10 maps, with Omens of Light near 4 Divine each
- Scaling: more tablet mods and eight-mod corrupted tablets raise the ceiling, but the base version already pays
Colax invitations from boss encounters sell for around 4.5 Divine, and killing Colax at full power guarantees an Ancient Rib, Collarbone or Jawbone — each in the 4 to 5 Divine range. Regular crafting omens also drop noticeably more often than before.
Step-by-step
- Fill the Abyss Atlas cluster completely, prioritising Omen nodes, Annamanu and scattered Abyss pits.
- Allocate additional Rogue Exiles, pack size and rare-monster nodes on the main tree; set Jato as leader with Unexpected Missions, Unforeseen Threats, Long Days and Partial Translation.
- Prepare three tablets. One carries general value mods (additional Rogue Exiles, additional rare monsters), one must have four additional Abysses, and one must have “Abyss pits are twice as likely to have rewards”.
- Run the map — preferably a grass biome — and clear every Abyss and every pit.
- Prioritise Abyssal Depths whenever they appear; they are the densest source of Omens and Echoes.
- Kill the map boss, take the Colax invitation if one drops, and leave.
Risks
- Omen prices move fast early in a league; if Omen of Light crashes, switch the faction node to Ulaman and farm currency chests instead.
- Eight-mod corrupted tablets are a currency sink and can be bricked — the base three-tablet version is the safer default.
- The Abyssal Depths buff is unconfirmed and not in the patch notes, so the creator’s yield numbers may not generalise.
- Returns are drop-dependent; a 10-map sample is small and individual sessions will vary.
