Strategy
Patch 0.5.5 rebalances the endgame juicing landscape by nerfing the two mechanics everyone was running and substantially buffing Abyss. The practical consequence is that Abyss moves from a side activity to a primary farming target, and the strategy below is about stacking every one of its new multipliers in a single map.
The headline addition is abyssal ravines: large formations that can now appear anywhere across the Atlas rather than only in the story quest zone. Every map on a ravine is guaranteed to contain abysses, and completing each map along the chain makes the next one more rewarding — more abysses spawned, more monsters, higher monster effectiveness. Reaching the final map on a ravine guarantees an abyssal boss encounter, and those bosses drop timeless jewels and uniques that are worth serious currency early in a league.
The second half of the strategy is tablet stacking. The ‘of Champions’ abyss tablet modifier now grants 2–3 additional rare monsters spawned from abyss in maps, up from 1–2 — a 50% increase. On a city map with four open tablet slots, high rolls across all four produce roughly twelve additional rare monsters from abyss alone, before any of the ravine’s own increased-monster and effectiveness bonuses apply.
Atlas Tree & Setup
The Ghastly Relics Abyss atlas passive now applies to all large abyssal chests from pits rather than only the final chest — another straightforward buff worth allocating. Beyond that, the setup is tablet-led rather than tree-led: seek out ravines on the Atlas map, prioritise city maps for their four tablet slots, and load them with ‘of Champions’ abyss tablets rolled as high as you can afford.
The multiplier that ties it together comes from the Forbidden Rites league mechanic. Sacred Blooms can now drop as a ritual reward and add a Viridian Wildwood to a cluster of maps on your Atlas. Inside the Wildwood you follow and collect Trails of Wisps; on leaving, the monsters in that map become more powerful and more rewarding. Layering Wisps onto a city map already stacked with abyss tablets — ideally one sitting on a ravine — is the maximum-value configuration this patch supports.
Investment & Returns
- Investment: mid — the cost is almost entirely tablets, so you choose your own exposure. Ravines themselves are free to find.
- Returns: high — twelve extra abyss rares per map before ravine and Wisp multipliers, plus guaranteed abyssal boss encounters dropping timeless jewels and uniques.
- Scaling: multiplicative. Ravine progression, tablet rolls and Wildwood Wisps all stack on the same encounter, so returns rise steeply with each layer added rather than linearly.
Step-by-step
- Scan the Atlas for abyssal ravines — they now spawn across the whole Atlas, not just the quest zone.
- Allocate the Ghastly Relics abyss passive so every large abyssal chest from pits benefits, not just the final one.
- Prioritise city maps on or near the ravine for their four tablet slots.
- Fill those slots with ‘of Champions’ abyss tablets, rolling for the top end of the 2–3 additional rare monsters range.
- Run rituals to acquire Sacred Blooms, then place a Viridian Wildwood over the map cluster you intend to farm.
- Collect Trails of Wisps inside the Wildwood before leaving, so the map’s monsters become more powerful and more rewarding.
- Work along the ravine map by map — each completion increases the rewards of the next — and finish at the guaranteed abyssal boss.
Risks
- A fully stacked ravine map with Wisps and four abyss tablets produces a genuinely dangerous monster density; this needs a strong build, not a league-start character.
- Returns depend on finding ravines, which is Atlas RNG — you cannot force the ravine layout you want.
- High-roll ‘of Champions’ tablets will be contested and priced accordingly once the strategy is widely known.
- Breach is nerfed alongside this: unstable Breach rares now spawn in waves of five instead of all at once, and the ‘of the Invasion’ modifier drops to 1–2 additional rares from 1–3. Do not plan a mixed Breach-Abyss route expecting old Breach throughput.
- Delirium monster packs no longer scale past 100% deliriousness, and Grand Mirror fog spread is reduced to 10 maps from 8–14 and 10–16. Delirium-based juicing is materially weaker this patch.
