Strategy
Ritual in 0.5.5 is a tribute economy: everything you do is aimed at generating more tribute per altar so you can reroll the reward window more times and defer more items. The chase prizes are Mageblood and Headhunter belts, plus the purple Omens that hold their value as a league progresses, and both are reached by volume of rerolls rather than by luck on a single altar.
The single most important prerequisite is the Atlas tree. Ritual passives are unlocked through a quest chain in Karn, and the guide is blunt that farming Ritual without those points is wasted time. The upper nodes require killing Ritual pinnacle bosses, so a character that cannot do that will need a carry service to finish the tree.
This suits players who want a low-investment, repeatable strategy. The barrier is not currency — it is having a build that can survive an altar with extra monster packs in it.
Atlas Tree & Setup
Take every Ritual point eventually. On the multi-choice nodes, option three is best in slot: revived Ritual monsters carry a 15% reduced penalty to tribute gain, which compounds into far more rerolls. If your build is weak or you are early in the league, option two is the easier pick — it gives more rewards in the window at a lower difficulty cost.
For Ritual types, choose Tainted — those altars lean toward belts, which is where Mageblood and Headhunter come from. Pick up Ancient Amends and Bring Forward Unseen for the 25% increased tribute from spirit-influenced and possessed monsters, then take the additional Azmerian Spirit and additional summoning circle nodes so those synergies actually trigger. At the bottom, take both “small altars are guarded by an additional pack of random monsters” nodes — more monsters at the altar means more tribute.
On the general Atlas tree, prioritise pack size, magic monsters and rare monsters. The final Ritual points come from killing the Arbiter of Divinity a second time.
Investment & Returns
- Investment: low for the budget setup, mid-to-high once you buy reroll tablets · Returns: mid, scaling steeply with tribute · Scales with: number of rerolls and pack size
- Budget tablets: two rare Ritual tablets with “increased chance to find Omens”, plus the unique Freedom of Fate (doubles your reroll count)
- Best in slot: a rare Ritual tablet with “can reroll favours an additional time” (roll of 1-3), again paired with Freedom of Fate
- Buying trick: a 1-additional-time tablet is far cheaper than a 3. Buy the cheap roll and Divine it upward — the creator saved several divines doing exactly this. Check the tablet has 10 uses before buying
- Optional pairings: increased chance for enemies to be magic or rare, increased tribute from sacrificed monsters, or reduced tribute cost when deferring favours
Step-by-step
- Travel to Karn and complete the quest chain to unlock the Ritual Atlas nodes. Do not farm before this is done.
- Allocate all Ritual points, favouring option three on the multi-choice nodes (option two if your build struggles), plus Tainted, the Azmerian Spirit and summoning circle synergies, and the extra monster pack nodes.
- On the general tree, take pack size, magic monsters and rare monsters.
- Set your tablets: budget is 2x Omen-chance rares plus Freedom of Fate; best in slot swaps the rares for reroll-count tablets.
- Juice waystones for pack size — more monsters inside the altar radius means more tribute. Run full modifiers if your build can handle it.
- Take Jo as your Atlas master for the “randomly gain between 0 and 40 increased effect of explicit modifiers on tablets” node — it multiplies whatever tablet mods you are running.
- Buy or farm a Head of the King (kill the King in the Mist with an Audience with the King invitation), attach it to a location, and scan locations with Escape until you find good rewards.
- Clear all the marked maps in that region, then re-attach the Head of the King and repeat.
Risks
- Farming Ritual without the full Atlas tree is a straight waste of time, and the top nodes are gated behind pinnacle bosses
- Fully juiced altars with extra monster packs will kill an under-geared character
- The “reroll an additional time” modifier is rare and expensive; prices will climb as more players farm Ritual
- Tablets can be sold with fewer than 10 uses — check before buying
